Holy Trinity column, Baroque memorial column in Castle District, Hungary.
The Holy Trinity column is a Baroque limestone monument that stands in front of Matthias Church in the Castle District. It features religious statues and detailed relief carvings that depict various sacred scenes throughout its structure.
The monument was built after a severe plague outbreak in 1691 by order of the Buda city council. It was created to remember the victims of this epidemic and served as a memorial for the community during difficult times.
The column displays representations of saints, angels, and the Holy Trinity that held deep religious meaning for the city. You can walk around and observe how these different figures are positioned on the monument.
The monument stands on a central plaza in the Castle District and is easy to reach on foot. The area is well served by public transportation, and the site is freely accessible at any time.
The hexagonal base displays six saint statues, including Saint Roch showing his wounds and Saint Christopher carrying the Baby Jesus. These particular figures reflected the hopes and faith of the community during that era.
