Szépjuhászné sits on a forested hilltop at about 350 meters high, positioned between two other hills in the Budapest highlands. The area is crisscrossed by hiking trails and includes a station of the Budapest Children's Railway that still operates today.
A Pauline monastery stood here from 1301, featuring a chapel dedicated to Saint Lawrence that became a pilgrimage destination by the late 14th century. The monastery fell into disrepair over time, and its stones were gradually taken for use in other constructions throughout the region.
The name comes from an 18th-century inn that once stood on medieval monastery ruins at this hilltop location. Visitors today can still sense this layered past as they walk through the forested slopes where locals and travelers have gathered for centuries.
