Belvedere Tower in the Buda Hills, Observation tower in Buda Hills, Hungary.
Belvedere Tower is a neoromanesque stone observation tower rising from the Buda Hills. The structure stands 23.5 meters tall and on clear days offers views that extend far across the surrounding landscape.
The tower replaced an earlier wooden platform in 1910 and was designed by architect Frigyes Schulek. Its opening marked a turning point in Budapest's tourism development.
The tower honors Queen Elisabeth of Hungary, whose 1882 visit to the site created an important link to the Hungarian monarchy. Over the decades, the structure has become a symbol of the Buda Hills that draws visitors from across the city.
You can reach the tower from the chairlift upper station or by walking around 30 minutes from several nearby bus stops. The site is relatively easy to access, and the climb to the observation platform requires minimal effort.
On winter days with heavy smog, the tower often rises above the fog layer covering Budapest. This creates a clear, sunny spot at the summit while the city below remains shrouded in haze.
