The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption is a large religious building in Kaposvár featuring Romanesque Revival style with thick stone walls, rounded arches, and a distinctive central tower. Inside, robust stone columns support the rounded arches and define the spacious interior layout.

The present cathedral is the third church on Kaposvár's main square. A wooden church built in 1702 was replaced in 1748 by a Baroque stone church, consecrated to the Holy Trinity and from 1790 to Our Lady. Deemed too small since an 1778 visitation, it was demolished; the neo-Romanesque cathedral, designed by Otto Tandor of Budapest, was built in 1885–1886 and consecrated by Bishop Zsigmond Kovács of Veszprém.

The cathedral serves as the spiritual center of Kaposvár's Catholic community and hosts regular worship as well as local celebrations throughout the year. You can observe how the local faith community gathers here and uses the space for important moments in their lives.

The main tower originally held four bells; two were requisitioned in World War II. The surviving great bell weighs 1,434 kg, the second largest in the city and third in Somogy County, while the passing bell weighs 253.3 kg.
