Château Majláth, Baroque château in Bakóca, Hungary.
Château Majláth is a Baroque structure with Neoclassical touches located in the Hungarian village of Bakóca. The building features symmetrical wings extending from a central core, large windows across its facade, and interior rooms that have retained their original layout despite passing into private hands.
The building was constructed in 1720 by the Kelleméri Meltzer family and later substantially transformed by the Majláth family. The most significant renovations took place in the 1860s, when the structure received its current appearance.
The building served as a school and children's home for generations, making it an important community hub in the area. Its spaces reflect this educational past and show how such estates once opened their doors to local needs.
The château is privately owned and currently not open to visitors. It is best appreciated from the outside, where you can view the architectural details and overall structure from a distance.
The building fell into decline for decades after shifting to private ownership in the 1990s. Despite this neglect, its original 18th-century central staircase and floor plan have survived intact to the present day.
