Tubes, Mountain summit in Baranya County, Hungary
Tubes is a mountain peak within the Mecsek range standing at 611 meters and ranks as the second highest summit in the area. A 22-meter observation tower built in 2001 provides views in all directions across the surrounding countryside.
The name comes from the Hungarian word 'tuba' referring to wild doves that once lived on the slopes in past times. This connection to local wildlife became part of the mountain's identity and naming tradition.
The mountain serves as a gathering point where people come together to enjoy outdoor activities and connect with nature. Walking trails draw locals who have made this place part of their regular routines.
The observation tower is reachable via hiking trails and offers good infrastructure for visitors to explore. Plan your visit on clear days when visibility across the surrounding landscape is at its best.
In 2005 the site was selected for a NATO radar installation project, but local opposition resulted in the plan being relocated to a neighboring county. This moment shows how community voices shaped decisions about the mountain's future.
