Dömör-kapu

Dömör-kapu is a mountain pass in the Visegrád Mountains featuring two waterfalls created by different streams. One waterfall is formed by the Bucsina stream while the other is formed by the Bükkös stream flowing through the Sikárosi valley.

This area developed as a transportation route over time and underwent infrastructure changes in the early 20th century. A cable car system was built to carry stones from a local quarry to the HÉV railway station in Szentendre due to construction constraints.

The name comes from Ottoman Turkish and means 'fortified gorge' or 'iron gate', referring to the narrow rocky formation. Visitors can sense this meaning in the striking shape of the rock walls.

The site is accessible via hiking trails available year-round with varying difficulty levels. Wear sturdy footwear and be careful during or after rain when paths near the waterfalls become slippery.

A memorial stone marks where nature explorer Ede Lenkó died during a hiking expedition in 1917. An obelisk now bears his name at this location, honoring his memory.
