Pécs Zoo, Animal park in Pécs, Hungary.
Pécs Zoo spreads across a hillside on the slopes of Mecsek Mountains and homes animals from about 300 species. Visitors encounter white Bengal tigers, Cuban crocodiles, and many other creatures living in separate enclosures throughout the grounds.
The zoo was built between 1959 and 1961 through volunteer work by local residents, university students, and high school students. This community effort shaped it from the start as a public place.
The zoo serves as a place where visitors, especially children and students, learn about animal behavior and environmental protection through hands-on experience. School groups come here regularly to connect learning with direct observation of wildlife.
The grounds include two playgrounds, dining areas, and a gift shop where visitors can spend time comfortably. Guided tours with feeding demonstrations happen throughout the year and help you understand the animals better.
The zoo sits within a Natura 2000 protected area, making it one of the few large animal collections in Southern Transdanubia. This setting gives your visit an extra layer, as you see animals within a protected natural zone.
