Vaskapu, Limestone cave in Pilisszentkereszt, Hungary.
Vaskapu is a limestone cave in the Pilis Mountains featuring a natural stone arch that opens above the Dera stream valley. The cave sits at roughly 570 meters elevation and is surrounded by forested terrain.
A Cistercian monastery once stood nearby, founded by King Béla III, with stone columns still visible today marking its former grounds. These remnants show how medieval communities used this mountain area.
A memorial plaque near the cave entrance commemorates the establishment of the Hungarian Tourist Association on September 24, 1888.
Access to the cave starts from Pilisszentkereszt cemetery via an unmarked path marked by a green stripe trail that runs beside Dera stream. The walk is short but requires sturdy footwear for uneven forest terrain.
The rock walls surrounding the site have become a favorite climbing destination where climbers test various routes on the limestone face. This makes the area an important location in Hungary's climbing scene.
