Museum Istana Asserayah El Hasyimiah, Royal palace and museum in Riau, Indonesia
Museum Istana Asserayah El Hasyimiah is a royal palace complex in Riau composed of four separate buildings, each serving different purposes for the sultanate. The grounds contain throne rooms on the ground level and guest rooms in the upper floors.
The palace was initiated in 1889 under Sultan Syarif Hasyim Abdul Jalil Syarifuddin and built with German architectural expertise, completed in 1893. The structure reflects the influence of European building styles on the Siak Sultanate's royal architecture.
The palace displays royal possessions such as traditional clothing, ceremonial objects, and treasured items from the Siak Sultanate era. Visitors can see the personal belongings of former rulers and understand how the court lived.
The rooms spread across two floors showing different aspects of royal life, so it helps to work through both levels methodically. Visitors should plan time to explore all the spaces and their furnishings thoroughly.
The complex houses a rare musical instrument called Komet, of which only two known examples exist worldwide. The roofline is also crowned with six bronze eagle statues that form a striking part of its exterior.
