Crumlin, Residential district in southern Dublin, Ireland
Crumlin is a residential district in southern Dublin, Ireland, stretching from the River Poddle near Kimmage Cross Roads to Sundrive Road. The area includes housing estates, local shops, and sits close to the Grand Canal.
The area changed from farmland to an urban settlement after 1920, when the Corporation of Dublin built thousands of homes to ease overcrowding in the city center. Our Lady's Children's Hospital opened in 1956 and has served as the country's main pediatric facility ever since.
The name comes from Cromghlinn, describing the curved glacial valley of the River Camac that shapes the local landscape. Today the Gaelic Athletic Association club plays an important role in daily life, connecting residents through shared sporting events.
The area is mainly a residential neighborhood and works well for short walks along its housing streets and toward the Grand Canal. Several local shops and public transport links connect the district with Dublin city center.
The glacial valley of the River Camac still shapes the gently rolling topography of the streets and paths today. The curved form of the valley is easy to notice while walking through the residential area.
