Muckish, Mountain summit in County Donegal, Ireland.
Muckish Mountain rises to 666 meters above sea level, featuring steep slopes and a broad, flat summit plateau covered in quartzite rock.
During the 1940s until 1952, miners extracted high-quality white quartzite from the mountain's northern face at an elevation of 580 meters.
The mountain's name originates from the Irish 'An Mhucais', which references its shape resembling the back of a pig in the landscape.
Two main routes lead to the summit: the Miners' Track from the north and the path from Muckish Gap on the southern slopes.
The northern quarry site remains visible on the mountainside, with abandoned mining equipment marking the historical industrial activities.
