Knowth, Neolithic passage grave in Meath, Ireland
The central mound of Knowth spans 67 meters in diameter and contains two passages with entrances positioned on opposite sides of the structure.
Construction of the burial complex began around 3200 BCE, preceding both Stonehenge in England and the Egyptian pyramids by several centuries.
The stones at Knowth display more than 200 pieces of megalithic art featuring spirals, concentric circles, and geometric patterns carved into their surfaces.
Access to Knowth requires participation in guided tours departing from the Brú na Bóinne Visitor Centre between April and October each year.
The site contains seventeen satellite cairns surrounding the main structure, with 127 decorated kerbstones encircling the central passage tomb.
