Daly's bridge, Pedestrian suspension bridge in County Cork, Ireland
Daly's Bridge is a steel suspension bridge spanning the River Lee, connecting Sunday's Well to Fitzgerald's Park in the Mardyke district. The structure allows pedestrians and cyclists to cross the river directly between these two neighborhoods.
James Daly funded construction of this wrought iron bridge in 1927, replacing an earlier ferry that had served the community. The project represented an important improvement to river crossing infrastructure in Cork.
Local people call it the Shakey Bridge because the deck moves noticeably beneath your feet when you walk across. This sensation during crossing becomes a memorable part of how residents experience this place.
The bridge is freely accessible to pedestrians and cyclists, offering a direct crossing at any time. It operates year-round regardless of river conditions.
During a major restoration in 2019, engineers dismantled the entire structure into four sections and reassembled it on site. This took-apart-and-rebuild approach was necessary to address significant corrosion damage.
