Derreen Garden, Botanical garden in Kilmackillogue Harbour, Ireland
The 60-acre garden features a network of paths through woodland areas, containing numerous tropical plants near the Caha Mountains and sea views.
The 4th Marquess of Lansdowne started planting the garden in 1863, with his son expanding the collection through plants gathered during international travels.
King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra marked their 1903 visit to Derreen Garden by planting bamboo specimens that remain in the collection.
Derreen Garden maintains open gates throughout the year, with 12 kilometers of paths allowing visitors to explore the woodland and plant collections.
The garden sustains tree ferns and rhododendrons in a climate modified by the Gulf Stream, creating growing conditions for subtropical species.
