Uragh Wood, Protected oak forest in County Kerry, Ireland
Uragh Wood spans 87 hectares along Inchquin Lough, featuring native sessile oak trees alongside birch, willow, and aspen specimens throughout the reserve.
The National Parks and Wildlife Service designated this forest as a nature reserve in 1982 to protect one of Ireland's remaining ancient oak woodlands.
The woodland forms part of the Special Area of Conservation that includes Cloonee and Inchiquin Loughs, preserving natural heritage for future generations.
Due to conservation measures protecting sensitive ecosystems and endangered species, public access to the nature reserve remains restricted throughout the year.
The forest contains populations of Kerry Slugs and Lesser Horseshoe Bats, both protected under the European Union's Habitats Directive.
