Wheel of Dublin, Observation wheel in North Wall Docklands, Ireland.
The Wheel of Dublin was a 53 meter high ferris wheel with 42 enclosed capsules that could hold up to 336 passengers. It stood at the edge of Point Village Square next to the O2 Arena and offered views out over the city and surrounding waterfront.
The ferris wheel opened in 2010 and served for over a year as a landmark for the developing harbor area. After closing in 2011 it was dismantled and transported to a new location in York.
The square around this ferris wheel came alive on weekends with market stalls, live performances, and art displays that turned the waterfront into a social meeting point. These gatherings helped introduce visitors to the emerging Docklands neighborhood.
The capsules held several people and rotated slowly to give passengers time to take in the views. The location was easy to reach and sat right next to a major entertainment venue with ample parking nearby.
A special VIP capsule offered champagne service and was often booked for occasions like proposals. This elevated experience with its extended 13-minute ride was popular with visitors looking for something more memorable.
