Rockstown Castle, Medieval tower house in Ballyneety, Ireland.
The five-story stone castle stands on a rocky outcrop with narrow defensive slits, square-headed windows, and a characteristic machicolation above the entrance.
Built in the 15th century, this defensive structure incorporated architectural elements common to County Galway, including large main rooms and smaller rectangular chambers.
Local folklore speaks of hidden treasure beneath the western window, leading surrounding farmers to search for gold throughout the castle grounds.
Located seven miles south of Limerick City on the main road to Kilmallock, the castle maintains most of its original structure despite entrance damage.
The castle features a defensive trench cut directly into the rock face before the entrance, enhancing its protective capabilities against potential attacks.
