Dangan Castle, Heritage castle ruins in Summerhill, Ireland.
Dangan Castle is a ruined fortress located near Summerhill in County Meath, standing within a large estate that mixes farmland, open grassland, and older woodland areas. The remaining structure offers a glimpse of what once was a substantial residential property.
The castle was controlled by the Wesley family for centuries as an important residential estate in the region. It later passed to other owners and gradually declined in use over time.
The Wesley family maintained this important estate from the time of Henry II of England until Richard Wellesley sold it to Thomas Burrowes.
The site sits roughly two kilometers from Summerhill village and is easiest to reach by car. Visitors should expect that access to the grounds may be limited and the ruins are weathered, so sturdy footwear helps when exploring.
The estate once featured a sizable lake that was created when gardens were being developed on the property. This water feature was a major part of the landscape design but has now disappeared from the site.
