Athclare Castle, Tudor tower house in Dunleer, Ireland.
Built of stone blocks, Athclare Castle rises on a rectangular plan with thick defensive walls and multiple floors featuring narrow window openings.
The Barnewell family constructed the fortress in the 1550s, and subsequent owners added extensions including an eastern tower during the seventeenth century.
The castle reflects the Tudor architectural style prevalent in Ireland, incorporating military design elements while serving as a residential structure for noble families.
While the castle interior remains closed to visitors, the exterior structure can be viewed from nearby public roads in County Louth.
The castle features a preserved early seventeenth-century chimneypiece within its adjoining hall, demonstrating architectural craftsmanship of the period.
