Magh Adhair, Archaeological inauguration site near Quin, Ireland

The site features a central mound measuring 20 feet in height with a flat top of 100 by 80 feet, surrounded by a fosse and external bank.

In 981, the Annals recorded that Maolshaughlin invaded Thomond and destroyed the sacred inauguration tree at Magh Adhair during King Brien's absence.

The Dal gCas tribe selected this location for ceremonial installations, where chiefs received white wands and performed specific rotations during their coronation.

Located in the townland of Toonagh, two miles northeast of Quin, the site contains multiple archaeological features including a standing stone and bullaun stone.

The inauguration mound differs from other Irish ceremonial sites by its low elevation position rather than the typical hilltop placement.
