Shee Alms House, Tudor almshouse in Kilkenny, Ireland

The Shee Alms House features a two-bay two-storey structure with cut-limestone elements and a half-dormer attic on Rose Inn Street.

Sir Richard Shee established this almshouse in 1582 to provide shelter for twelve impoverished individuals, making provisions for its endowment in 1603.

The building represents the philanthropic initiatives of wealthy merchant families in sixteenth-century Ireland through its architectural and social purpose.

Following restoration by Kilkenny Corporation in 1978, the building now serves as the main tourist information office for visitors to Kilkenny.

The structure maintains its original Tudor architectural elements, making it one of the few remaining examples of period almshouses in Ireland.
