Bitha, Agricultural moshav in Merhavim Regional Council, Israel
Bitha is a moshav in the northwestern Negev near Ofakim, situated on elevated terrain at 120 meters above sea level. The settlement spreads across cultivated farmland and housing areas organized through the Merhavim Regional Council structure.
The settlement was founded in 1950 by Yemenite immigrants who initially lived at the Hakam Ha-107 ma'abara transit camp. In 1952 the residents relocated to establish the permanent moshav at its current location.
The settlement brings together people from Yemenite and Egyptian Karaite backgrounds whose traditions remain visible in daily life and local customs. You can observe how these different heritages coexist within the agricultural community structure.
The moshav functions as an agricultural community where residents farm individual plots and share resources through collective arrangements. The location is accessible and offers insight into rural settlement life in the Negev region.
The settlement shows how different Jewish communities came together to build a shared agricultural life in the Negev. This model of cooperation has helped shape the identity of the place and continues to contribute to regional development.
