Eshbol, Agricultural moshav in Merhavim Regional Council, Israel
Eshbol is a moshav in the northwestern Negev located between the cities of Netivot and Rahat, with a focus on agriculture. The settlement sits about 173 meters (568 feet) above sea level and houses around 662 residents who grow crops and other products in this semi-arid region.
Founded in 1955 by Iranian Jewish immigrants from the Yazd region, this community was established as part of Israel's settlement expansion program in the Negev. The settlement emerged during a period of intensive colonization efforts and maintains connections to its Persian roots today.
Residents manage individual family farms while participating in shared cooperative work that strengthens community bonds. This way of living shapes daily routines and shows how agricultural traditions are practiced here.
The small settlement is accessible via main roads between Netivot and Rahat and sits in an area with plenty of open space and natural daylight. Visitors should bring water and sun protection during warm months, as the region offers little shade.
The name comes from the Hebrew word for cluster or bundle, pointing to agriculture as the core identity of the settlement. This Iranian Jewish community preserves cultural features of its founders from southern Iran to this day.
