Tel esh-Sharia, Archaeological site in Negev, Israel.
Tel esh-Sharia extends across 20 dunams of land, rising 14 meters above the surrounding terrain at an elevation of 169 meters above sea level.
The site contains 13 layers of civilization spanning from the Chalcolithic period through the Byzantine era, with extensive fortifications dating back to 1800 BC.
Archaeological excavations revealed grain silos from the Persian period, Roman bathing facilities, and a Byzantine monastery, indicating continuous settlement patterns through different epochs.
The location provides researchers with substantial evidence of ancient Near Eastern trade routes and settlement patterns through preserved artifacts and structural remains.
During World War I, the Turkish and German armies used this elevated position to protect railway infrastructure, marking its strategic military significance.
