Assaf Siboni lookout, Memorial and scenic viewpoint in Nir Am, Israel
The lookout features an observation area with ceramic plates displaying illustrations of local birds found near the Nir Am reservoir.
The site commemorates the 1997 helicopter disaster where 73 IDF soldiers, including Assaf Siboni from Kibbutz Nir Am, lost their lives in Lebanon.
Twenty wind flutes installed at the center of the observatory create sounds with the passing wind, representing each year of Assaf Siboni's life.
Visitors can reach the observatory by driving to Kibbutz Nir Am's entrance, turning left, passing the water museum, and following the path for 2.1 kilometers.
The observation point provides clear views of the Gaza Strip, with direct sightlines to Jabalia and Gaza City stretching toward the western horizon.
