Mary's Well

Mary's Well is a historic water source in Nazareth featuring a rectangular stone structure with a natural cave chamber containing the spring opening. Water flows through underground channels from multiple points within the cave system.

The spring has been in continuous use since Byzantine times and remained a vital water source through the Crusader period into modern times. Archaeological findings near the site document its long history of use by successive populations.

For generations, local people gathered here to collect water and share news about their daily lives in town. This communal gathering place remained central to neighborhood life until the mid-20th century.

The well is located in the old town and is easily accessible on foot with clear approaches to the site. It is best visited in early morning or late afternoon to avoid midday heat.

Water emerges from a natural white rock cave, with the strongest flow coming from the northeast direction. The cave chamber itself is large enough for visitors to step inside and see the water source up close.
