Netanya winter pond park, Nature reserve in Netanya, Israel.
Netanya winter pond park is a nature reserve in southern Netanya where a seasonal pond fills with rainwater each winter, surrounded by a large stand of eucalyptus trees. Hiking trails run around the pond, and the site also has a fitness area and a games zone nearby.
The park was set up in 2003 through a partnership between Netanya Municipality and the Jewish National Fund. The land was then designated as a protected area and opened for environmental education.
Locals come here to walk among the eucalyptus trees and watch the waterbirds that gather around the pond in the rainy season. The way the site changes from dry ground in summer to a busy pond in winter gives each visit a different feel.
The park is easy to reach by car from Route 2 near the Poleg industrial area, where parking is available on site. A winter visit gives you the best chance to see the pond full of water and the wildlife that comes with it.
The pond sits between two major bird migration routes, making it one of the few resting points for migratory birds in this part of the country. Birdwatchers tend to come in spring and autumn when the movement of birds passing through is at its peak.
