Kalighat Kali Temple
Kalighat Kali Temple, Hindu temple in Kalighat district, Kolkata, India
The temple exhibits At-chala architecture with multiple tiers, flat roofs, and three metal domes topped with a trident and triangular flag.
The current temple structure, built in 1809 by Sabarna Zamindars including Shivdas Chowdhury, stands at the site of an earlier shrine near Adi Ganga.
The temple houses a black stone idol of Goddess Kali with a gold crown, silver hands, and four gold skull necklaces donated by Raja Nabakrishna.
The temple grounds occupy 1 bigha 11 kathas of land, with the main shrine covering 8 kathas, and remain open daily for prayers and offerings.
The temple marks the location where Sati's right toe allegedly fell, making it one of the 51 Shakti Peethas in Hindu mythology.
