Kuno Wildlife Sanctuary

The sanctuary spans 748 square kilometers across Sheopur and Morena districts, featuring forests, grasslands, and the Kuno River flowing through its territory.

Established as a wildlife refuge in 1981, the sanctuary underwent a status change to National Park in 2018, expanding its protected area to 413 square kilometers.

The sanctuary area previously housed 24 villages with 1,650 residents, including Sahariya tribal communities, who relocated between 1998 and 2003 for conservation purposes.

The park maintains specific zones for wildlife viewing, with guided tours available throughout the year and increased animal activity during morning and evening hours.

In September 2022, eight African cheetahs from Namibia were introduced to the sanctuary, marking the first intercontinental large wild carnivore translocation project.
