Rajiv Gandhi Regional Museum of Natural History, Natural history museum in Sawai Madhopur, India.
Rajiv Gandhi Regional Museum of Natural History is a natural history museum on 7.2 acres in Ramsinghpura Village featuring the region's flora, fauna, and wildlife. The displays combine digital panels and dioramas to show the biodiversity of western Rajasthan.
The Ministry of Environment and Forests established this as India's fourth regional natural history museum, with its foundation stone laid in December 2007. It was created to document and preserve the region's natural diversity.
The ground floor reveals how local communities, particularly the Bishnoi people, protect and coexist with nature through their daily practices. Visitors can see their environmental values reflected in the displays throughout the space.
The museum is open daily except Mondays from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM with free admission. A library with extensive materials on wildlife and nature is available for visitors to browse and learn more.
The museum features specialized areas designed for visually impaired visitors to experience animal exhibits through tactile models and hands-on displays. This thoughtful design ensures the museum welcomes people of all abilities.
