Nagar Sagar Kund

Nagar Sagar Kund is a twin stepwell in Bundi built from white sandstone with carved columns, arches, and decorative details covering the inner walls and edges. The two reservoirs connect through staircases that descend in levels, allowing water access even when levels dropped during dry seasons.

Built when water scarcity threatened Bundi's survival, this stepwell was designed to store and preserve water throughout the year for the growing population. The twin structure allowed for greater storage capacity and served the city's changing water needs over generations.

The stepwell held social importance in Bundi, serving as a gathering place where people from different backgrounds met to collect water and spend time together. Its role shaped daily community life and reinforced connections among residents who relied on it regularly.

The site sits near Chauhan Gate and is easiest to explore during daylight when carved details are visible on the sandstone surfaces. Visiting this location pairs well with nearby Raniji Ki Baori, another stepwell in the same area that complements the experience.

The mirror-image design of the two reservoirs is uncommon in regional stepwell construction and reflects a deliberate choice by the builders to balance function with form. This symmetry made water distribution equal on both sides and created a sense of visual harmony visitors still notice today.
