Raniji ki Baori, Royal stepwell in Bundi, India
Raniji ki Baori is a stepwell with multiple levels of staircases descending about 46 meters underground. The structure features intricately carved pillars and detailed stone work throughout each level.
A queen named Nathavati commissioned this water reservoir in 1699 during the reign of Maharaja Rao Raja Anirudh Singh. The structure was built as a practical solution for storing water in the region.
The stone carvings show Hindu deities and mythological scenes that reflect the artistic traditions of Rajasthan. These details tell the story of the beliefs and craftsmanship of the people who built this place.
The stepwell is open daily from sunrise to sunset for visitors. Guided tours are available to help explain the architectural features and details.
The entrance is supported by four large columns that carry a high archway. Each level contains dedicated spaces that once served for religious ceremonies.
