Bundi

Bundi is a city in Rajasthan situated between fruit orchards and the Aravalli mountain range, with narrow streets lined by blue-painted buildings. The place holds more than fifty stepwells of various designs that served as water storage and collection points for centuries.

The city was once the capital of the Hadoti Kingdom under Hada Chauhan rule until Kota separated and became independent in 1624. This split marked the beginning of the place's gradual decline in political importance.

The blue-painted houses that line the streets reflect a deep connection to local craftsmanship and tradition. Residents maintain this distinctive appearance as a point of community identity and artistic pride.

Visit during the cooler months when exploring the narrow streets is more comfortable and pleasant. Wear comfortable shoes and allow extra time to navigate the winding passages and get oriented in the old quarter.

The surrounding countryside holds approximately 100 rock art sites with prehistoric drawings of humans and animals dating back 7000 years. These ancient artworks offer insight into early human expression and creative practices in the region.
