Sheohar district, Administrative district in Tirhut division, India
This district sits in the Tirhut division of Bihar state and covers around 443 square kilometers. It is bordered by Sitamarhi, East Champaran, and Muzaffarpur districts on its edges.
The region became a separate district in 1994 when it split off from Sitamarhi district to form its own administration. This change allowed the area to develop its own governance structure and local institutions.
The name comes from Sanskrit words meaning Shiva and sacred mountain, reflecting the spiritual role this place holds for local communities. Temples dedicated to Lord Shiva are woven throughout the landscape and shape how people gather and celebrate together.
The region is organized into five administrative blocks overseen by 12 police stations. This structure helps visitors understand how to access local services and find their way within the distinct zones of the territory.
Cadamba and teak trees shape the landscape and give the region its natural character. The nilgai, a bluish antelope, roams freely here and serves as the symbol of the local animal life.
