Kesaria stupa

Kesaria stupa is a massive circular religious structure in Bihar that rises to considerable height with a wide circumference. The building consists of multiple levels decorated with religious figures and ornaments.

Original construction took place during Emperor Ashoka's reign around 250 BCE and represents that era's architecture. Later periods, particularly the Gupta Dynasty, brought significant changes and expansions.

The terraced structure displays carved Buddha figures in varied positions that depict core Buddhist teachings and meditation practices. These sculptures tell stories from Buddha's life and communicate spiritual lessons to those who visit.

The site is reachable from across the region due to good road connections to the location. Allow time to move slowly through the different levels and observe the carving details.

This structure is documented by India's Archaeological Survey as the tallest excavated one of its kind worldwide. It surpasses the better-known examples in other countries and thus remains unknown to many visitors.
