Akbar's Tomb, Mausoleum in Sikandra, India
Akbar's Tomb is a mausoleum in Sikandra, Uttar Pradesh state. The construction consists of reddish stone and rises through several levels, with a pale platform at the top.
Work began in the final years of the emperor's life and continued after his death in 1605. His successor changed some original plans and filled the upper stories with new elements.
The name honors Jalaluddin Muhammad Akbar, a ruler from the Mughal period. The facade shows small patterns and lettering that visitors can still clearly see today.
Access is through a large gate on the south side, leading into a park with pathways and lawns. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes, as the paths are stone and can be uneven in places.
Wild deer live in the courtyard and move freely between the trees and green spaces. These animals have been part of the grounds for generations and often seek shade under old trees.
