Mohali, Administrative city in Punjab, India
Mohali sits at an elevation of 316 meters (1037 feet) in the Tricity region and forms a connected urban area with Chandigarh and Panchkula. The streets follow a modern grid layout with wide avenues and planned residential sectors, broken by green spaces and commercial areas.
The city came into being on November 1, 1966, as part of the newly formed Punjab after the partition of India. In 2006, it separated from Rupnagar and gained the status of an independent district.
The city takes its name from the eldest son of Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Guru of the Sikhs. This connection to Sikh history appears today in the gurdwaras and religious festivals that shape the rhythm of local life.
The Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport connects the city with national and global destinations and lies southwest of the center. Road routes follow the numbered sectors, while cycle rickshaws and cars shuttle between the areas.
The Punjab Cricket Association Stadium carries the name of Inderjit Singh Bindra and put Mohali on the international sports map. Visitors often notice the sprawling facility with its modern stands that hold thousands of fans during matches.
