Dholera is a planned town in Dholera Taluka, Gujarat, India, covering an area of roughly 355 square miles (920 square kilometers) and combining modern roads with sustainable planning. The infrastructure includes residential and commercial zones that are still under development and will expand over the coming years.
In ancient times, this location served as a port city on the Gulf of Khambhat and played a key role in maritime trade. The modern development as an industrial town began in the 21st century with the aim of attracting investment and new technology.
The Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Dholera stands as one of nine temples established through direct involvement of Swaminarayan himself.
The town is connected to larger cities through a developed road network, and a planned rapid transit system will ease inner-city transport in the future. Visitors should note that many areas are still under construction and facilities may vary depending on the progress of the works.
A large solar park with a capacity of around 4,400 megawatts is located nearby and supplies the region with renewable energy. The park is among the largest solar projects in western India and shows the focus on clean energy sources.
