Shri Hanuman Mandir, Hindu temple in Barwala Taluka, India
Shri Hanuman Mandir is a Hindu temple complex in Barwala Taluka in the Indian state of Gujarat featuring a monumental statue of the deity that stands 54 feet (16.5 meters) tall. The figure is made of steel and red sandstone and rises above the flat surrounding land, remaining visible from far away.
Gopalanand Swami founded the temple in 1848 with an original figure that he consecrated in the presence of clergy and believers. The large statue was presented to the public in April 2023 and expands the original sanctuary.
The name refers to Hanuman, a central deity in Hindu tradition known for strength and devotion. Worshippers gather here to sing together and bring flower offerings while priests perform daily rituals.
The main shrine opens early in the morning and remains accessible until evening, with several prayer times spread throughout the day. Pilgrims can stay in accommodations on the grounds if they wish to remain for an extended period.
The statue weighs approximately 66,000 pounds (30,000 kilograms) and was assembled from different materials sourced from multiple regions. The construction project took several years and cost around 110 million rupees.
