Trinetreshwar Temple, Hindu temple in Tarnetar, Gujarat, India
Trinetreshwar Temple is a Hindu sanctuary containing three sacred water reservoirs called Kunds: Vishnu Kund, Brahma Kund, and Shiv Kund. Each reservoir holds religious importance and is integrated into the temple grounds in Tarnetar.
The sanctuary originates from the 8th century and was built during the reign of Mihir Bhoj of the Gurjara Pratihara dynasty. Later, King Karansinghji of Lakthar reconstructed the temple as a memorial to his son.
The annual Trinetreshwar Mahadev Mela draws thousands of visitors who participate in traditional ceremonies and religious rituals. The festival shapes the spiritual life of the region and brings together people from surrounding communities.
The sanctuary sits in a rural setting accessible via local roads, best reached with your own transport. Visitors should bring comfortable clothing and sturdy footwear, especially during monsoon season when paths can become muddy.
Local legend says King Karansinghji founded the temple in Tarnetar to honor his son's memory, adding a personal dimension to the site. This founding story gives the location meaning beyond its purely religious role.
