Khodiyar Temple - Rajapara, Hindu temple in Rajapara, Gujarat, India.
Khodiyar Temple - Rajapara is a Hindu temple located in the Bhavnagar district of Gujarat, India. The site is made up of a ground-level shrine with a main hall housing the deity, and a separate hilltop shrine reached by ropeway.
The temple was founded in 1911 by the ruler of Bhavnagar following a reported divine vision that led him to establish this site. Over time, the compound grew and additional structures were added, including the hilltop shrine and the ropeway connecting it to the lower level.
The temple is devoted to Khodiyar Mata, a goddess with deep roots in the folk traditions of Gujarat, especially among communities from the Saurashtra region. On festival days, pilgrims arrive in large numbers to offer prayers and witness rituals that fill the whole compound with sound and activity.
The temple is open during daylight hours and visitors should wear comfortable shoes, as moving between the lower shrine and the ropeway station involves some steps and uneven ground. Arriving outside major festival periods makes it easier to move around the compound at your own pace.
Although the ropeway tends to draw most of the attention, the lower part of the compound holds a small sacred pond that is part of the ritual route followed by many pilgrims. Visitors who spend time here before taking the ropeway often notice details of the compound that others miss entirely.
