Golden Bridge, Road bridge in Gujarat, India
Golden Bridge is a road crossing over the Narmada River linking Bharuch and Ankleshwar through four traffic lanes. The structure reaches roughly 750 meters (2460 feet) in length and rests on several concrete pillars in the riverbed.
Work started in the mid-1970s as part of a nationwide program to improve transport routes between industrial cities. Completion allowed faster connections along the main route between Mumbai and Delhi.
The name comes from the yellowish metal finish that catches late afternoon light over the sacred river. Fishermen and pilgrims often gather along the banks nearby for daily rituals.
The crossing follows National Highway 48, which carries traffic between Gujarat and neighboring states. The outer lanes offer better views of the river, while driving during daylight hours is safer.
The pillars were fitted with special protection systems against high water during monsoon season. These measures allow the structure to withstand strong currents when the river swells.
