Rangpur

Rangpur is an archaeological site in Dhandhuka Taluka, Gujarat, containing remains of multiple settlement layers from the second millennium BCE. The location displays clear traces of human habitation with excavated structures and artifacts from different time periods.

Initial excavations began here in the 1930s and revealed multiple settlement layers showing how people inhabited this location over extended periods. The findings date to a time thousands of years ago and help explain how early life was organized in this region.

The excavated pottery features animal designs and distinctive high-necked jars alongside carnelian beads that reflect the craftsmanship of former inhabitants. These objects offer insight into the artistic skills and daily possessions of people who lived here long ago.

Visitors can explore the archaeological structures along designated pathways that were created to protect the ancient remains. It is advisable to wear comfortable shoes and prepare for uneven ground, as this is an outdoor excavation site.

Researchers found traces of ancient grain cultivation at this location, including millet and rice, showing that inhabitants practiced agriculture. This discovery demonstrates that people here already possessed and applied advanced farming techniques.
