Dilli Haat, Traditional bazaar in South Delhi, India
Dilli Haat is a craft market in South Delhi that covers six acres and houses 62 rotating stalls within brick buildings and thatched cottages. Several tree-lined courtyards with seating areas connect the shopping zones to the food sections, which serve dishes from across India.
The market opened in March 1994 as a joint project by Delhi Tourism and the Ministry of Textiles to provide craftspeople from all regions with a permanent sales venue. The exhibition hall was added later to host festivals and cultural events.
The stalls are run by craftspeople from across India who sell their wood carvings, embroidered fabrics, and metalwork directly to visitors. They rotate every 15 days, so each visit reveals new workshops and techniques.
The site is open daily from 10:30 AM to 10:00 PM with an entry fee of 30 rupees for Indian adults, 20 rupees for children, and 100 rupees for international guests. Most stalls accept cash, though some also take card payments for larger purchases.
The exhibition hall regularly hosts festivals like the summer mango event, which offers dozens of Indian mango varieties for tasting. In February 2011, it also hosted India's first Comic Con, drawing fans from across the country.
