Gauhati University, Public university in Jalukbari, Guwahati, India
Gauhati University is a public institution in the Jalukbari area of Guwahati, spreading across a wide site along the Brahmaputra. The campus houses departments for science and humanities as well as research centers scattered among lawns and tree-lined paths.
The institution was founded in the mid 20th century to advance academic education in the region. Over the following decades the facility grew and added new departments while consolidating its role as a center for higher learning.
The campus library carries the name of an Assamese scholar and preserves old manuscripts that draw researchers from across the country. Students from different states use the reading rooms daily, making the facility a meeting point for academic exchange.
The campus lies several kilometers outside the center of Guwahati and is reachable via a main road. Visitors can attend the library or public events but should check opening hours and access rules beforehand.
Numerous trees on the grounds bloom twice a year and paint the pathways in bright colors. These plants give the surroundings their informal nickname and provide shaded areas between the buildings.
