Lohagarh Fort

Lohagarh Fort is a fortress in Bharatpur with thick mud walls designed to withstand cannon fire. The complex spans several kilometers and houses multiple palace buildings and a museum section.

The fortress was founded in 1732 by Maharaja Suraj Mal and resisted multiple British attacks throughout its history. A major six-week siege took place in 1805 under the command of Lord Lake.

The fort displays Jat architectural features visible in its three palaces that define the complex. The spaces reflect the building style favored by the rulers of this region.

Visitors can walk through multiple sections and explore the palace buildings and collections inside. The best time to visit is during the cooler months, as summer heat in this region becomes quite intense.

The Ashtadhatu Gate combines eight different metals in its structure and features intricately carved war elephants. This blend of materials and craftsmanship is a noteworthy detail that stands out during a visit.
