Apathsahayar Temple, Thirupazhanam

Apathsahayar Temple is a sanctuary with four gateway structures, multiple inner shrines, and a five-tiered eastern tower dedicated to two principal deities. The complex comprises interconnected halls and courtyards that form a complete place of worship.

The temple's oldest sections were built during the Chola period in the 9th century, an era of great artistic achievement in the region. Centuries later, rulers of the Nayak dynasty expanded and enhanced the structure with additional sections during the 16th century.

The temple serves as a living center of worship where devotees gather daily to offer prayers at multiple shrines dedicated to different deities. The ornate architectural details and regular ceremonies reflect the deep spiritual significance this place holds for the surrounding community.

On certain nights throughout the year, moonlight streams through carefully positioned openings to illuminate the main deity form with remarkable precision. This deliberate architectural alignment reveals the advanced astronomical knowledge of the temple's ancient builders.
