Odhanavaneswarar Temple, Tiruchotruturai

Odhanavaneswarar Temple is a Hindu temple featuring four gateway towers, three enclosed precincts, and multiple shrines dedicated to various deities. The complex shows a spatial organization that guides worshippers through different sacred areas.

The oldest structures date from the Chola dynasty in the 9th century. The Thanjavur Nayaks later expanded the temple with additions during the 16th century.

The temple participates in the Saptha Stanam festival, which connects seven regional Shiva temples to celebrate the divine wedding of Nandi and Suyasayambikai. Visitors can sense this connection to other sacred locations in the region when attending the celebrations.

The temple is located about 10 kilometers from Thanjavur and can be reached by local transport. Daily rituals take place regularly with traditional music, allowing visitors to experience genuine spiritual practices.

According to local tradition, a devotee named Arulalan received a blessing from Lord Shiva in the form of a vessel with endless food. This story continues to be shared in the community, shaping the spiritual significance of the place.
