Borivali, Transportation hub in Mumbai, India
Borivali is a suburb in the northwestern part of Mumbai, India, where residential neighborhoods meet the edge of Sanjay Gandhi National Park. The railway station serves as a central hub and terminus for many long-distance trains, while streets and markets reflect the daily rhythm of local life.
The name comes from the abundance of bor trees that once grew in the area and originally referred to several smaller settlements like Eksar and Poisar. Over time the area developed into an important transport junction and grew together with Mumbai.
The Mandapeshwar Caves, dating from the 8th century, and the Shree Svayambhu Ganpati Devalaya temple display the historical religious heritage of this area.
The station sits on the Western Railway Line and offers connections to Delhi, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and other northern destinations. Many travelers use Borivali as a starting point for trips to the nearby national park or to older religious sites in the surrounding area.
Nearby stands the Global Vipassana Pagoda, a tall structure dedicated to Buddhist meditation practice. The Mandapeshwar Caves from the 8th century lie just a few kilometers away and display early stone carvings and religious motifs.
